French sniper accidentally fires weapon during Hollande speech, injuring 2

A police sharpshooter accidentally wounded two people as French President Francois Hollande was giving a speech in the south-west of France on Tuesday, a police source said.

In video footage of the address the French President can be seen pausing mid-speech and turning to look in the direction of the disturbance. Local media are reporting that the shot was mistakenly fired by a police sniper.

Two people were hurt but their injuries were not life-threatening, the BBC reported. While there was no sign of panic, the leader was also plainly uncertain of what had just happened. They were then taken to the nearby hospital of Girac.
