Lego announces lift off for 'Women of NASA' set

The set's release coincides with the Oscar-nominated film Hidden Figures, which highlights the work of NASA mathematician and space scientist Katherine Johnson, a female African-American who served as a "human calculator" for trajectory calculations in the Mercury and Apollo programs.

A Lego spokesperson says Women of NASA is slated for launch later this year.

Maia Weinstock, a science editor and the victor of a Lego competition for new sets created by fans, said she wanted to recognise women who made significant contributions at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. "They love the minifigs but they want girls too".

-Some real-life heroes will soon join such Lego superhero icons as Spiderman, Ironman, and Batman: the women of NASA.

Women have played critical roles throughout the history of the USA space program, a.k.a. NASA or the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The Lego Ideas website notes that the company is still working on final product design and pricing.

Trump Supporters Rally In Denver
In Ohio, Trump supporter Margaret Howe, 57, of Pataskala, said she increasingly fears civil war. "I love my country". Their predictions appeared to be correct, as they were on Monday when similar rallies were held.

U.S. suspends premium processing of H1-B petitions
These applications appear to be rising in number, and the USCIS says it is suspending it in order to clear some of the backlog. The temporary suspension of "premium processing" of H-1B visas will cause some uncertainty for Indian software companies.

Emergency trailer set up for asylum-seekers
That number, though, includes all people seeking asylum, not just those who crossed the border, and the government would not break down the figures.

NASA's chief astronomer Nancy Grace Roman - who is seen as "instrumental in making the Hubble Space Telescope a reality" - and the first African-American woman in space, Mae Jemison, also made the cut. You may immediately recognise at least one of the women - mathematician and space scientist Katherine Johnson. That's why she raised the notion to have five notable Women of NASA to further boost the awareness of the history of women in STEM. "I knew I wanted to include her because she's already fairly famous, so that would help the set gain some traction, but also because of all of the work she's done post-NASA, to encourage young people to go into science and [engineering]", she wrote.

Lego is listening to its customers, and they're asking for more female figures. STEM professions (science, technology, engineering and maths) are typically male-dominated in most countries. "I hope it makes lots of little tinkerers dream about being engineers at MIT someday".

"One major goal for me is to get the public to recognize the history of women in the STEM fields".

When people read about or see the set Weinstock hopes that they will learn about the women portrayed in it and their stories and contributions. "It's really important to set an example for girls, as well as for boys, to normalize and make plain that women are expected to be in these fields and that it's not odd or unusual".
