Tornadoes in US Midwest damage homes, displace residents

The "Kansas City Star" reports Oak Grove School officials have canceled Tuesday classes because of power outages and damage.

Police said several homes, barns and sheds were damaged in rural areas near Plattsburg and Lathrop in Missouri, and four people were treated for minor injuries.

A storm with winds up to 70 miles per hour ripped through the Springfield area Monday night and Tuesday morning, knocking over trees and electrical poles, officials say.

Cramer said storms caused "widespread damage" throughout this part of the state.

KMBC reports more than 400 homes were damaged and at least 12 people were injured by the tornado that touched down around 8 p.m. Monday. The storm also brought huge hailstones and powerful winds as far south as the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas, where a post office and church were damaged, and as far north as Wisconsin, where trees were downed.
