Renault ZOE Makes The Nissan Leaf Look Even More Useless

Renault ZOE Makes The Nissan Leaf Look Even More Useless

Combine that with slick tires, and it's no surprise the e-Sport can reach 62 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds, before hitting its 130 miles per hour top speed less than 7 seconds later.

Renault has a history of using its Renaultsport department to create insane concept cars, and at this year's Geneva Motor Show the company has followed up the mad Espace F1 and Twizy F1 with a new ZOE concept using the firm's Formula E technology. It has a four-wheel drive powertrain equipped with two electric motors that can produce up to 456bhp.

"The brief for the Renault ZOE e-sport concept couldn't have been simpler: 'Have fun!'", said Renault's concept vehicle design chief Stéphane Janin. These selectable modes replicate the system found in the Formula E auto and also reflect changes in torque split to the two axles.

The ZOE e-sport also has 640Nm of torque, which is available at an instant of course, and the motors are charged by a 40kWh battery pack. The bodywork is made from carbon fibre, while the steel roll cage incorporates Kevlar panels.

Plenty of aerodynamic trickery is woven into the all-carbon body. Due to the high-performance nature of the electric powertrain, the Zoe e-Sport dedicates almost a third of its 1,400 kg weight to a larger 450 kg battery, which is 160 kg more than one found in the standard vehicle. There's also a double wishbone suspension, wider tracks, bigger brakes, Öhlins four-way adjustable dampers, as well as a sporty theme for the interior as well. Gaping tracts in the rear doors, a large rear spoiler and 20-inch centrally-locking diamond cut aluminium wheels complete the racecar inspired look.

Inside, the two Recaro bucket seats have been created to offer maximum grip during high-speed cornering, while the racing harnesses and rectangular steering wheel draw inspiration from Renault's experience in the electric Formula E racing series. Despite the production model influences, the ZOE e-sport will remain a one-off concept.

Sadly, the E-Sport is strictly a concept for the moment as Renault isn't saying anything about the prospects of doing a production model. Most significantly though, the Zoe E-sport has a completely flat floor and rear diffuser. Let us know below.
