Wall Street crowds bullish on 'Fearless Girl' statue

The statue shows the girl with her hands placed defiantly on her hips, staring at the bull, straight on.

The Wall Street bull has company. The sculpture is an amalgam of the daughter of a friend and a nine-year-old Latina girl, Visbal said.

State Street Global Advisors, a almost $2.5 trillion investor and unit within State Street Corp., is rolling out the campaign ahead of International Women's Day on March 8.

The statue was set up on a temporary, week-long permit, but State Street lobbying the city to let it stay in place for the duration of Women's History Month, McNally said.

International Women's Day has been marked on Wall Street with a stature of a young girl. If a company does not work toward adding more women to its board, SSGA said that it will use "proxy voting power to influence change" by "voting against the chair of the board's nominating and/or governance committee if necessary".

Fearless Girl was commissioned by a huge asset manager - State Street - to make a point about companies putting more women on their boards, which has been proven to help them perform better financially.

Leading into 2017, 70% startups in the USA had no women on their board and 54% had no women in executive positions.The survey also revealed that fundraising is more challenging for startups founded by women as opposed to those where founders are male.
