At the very same time, the Dallas 911 call center was overwhelmed by "a spike in calls" due to what has become known as "the ongoing T-Mobile ghost call issue", a Dallas city government announcement said Tuesday.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said in a statement that it was "outrageous" T-Mobile had not yet resolved the glitch.

Police officials have used overtime to beef up staffing in the 911 call center. And by January, he said he thought the problem had been resolved.

She dialled 911 three times but was reportedly placed on hold for a total of more than 40 minutes and eventually hung up.

City leaders and T-Mobile executives advised 911 callers to stay on the line. Hanging up "puts you back at the bottom of the queue and causes further delays in reaching a 911 call taker", the city said.

Rawlings said the problem means the city isn't performing one of its core functions: ensuring people's safety.

It is not clear if this is exclusively the company's fault, but the CEO John Legere said that engineers would "stay in the city until the issue is resolved".

"The child's mother isn't happy that it took a death in her family to prompt T-Mobile and the city to action".

T-Mobile also released a statement but gave no timeline for when the glitch would be fixed.

"On a personal note, that anybody that has been impacted by this, I'm sorry and we are going to do better in the future as a city", Rawlings said.

The last time the baby sitter called, at 6.11pm, she was kept waiting for 31 minutes; the city's goal is to have all 911 calls answered within 10 seconds.

Bridget said: "I jumped in the auto with him, and I just kept kissing his lips".

The calls then appear on a dispatcher's screen as hang-ups. Both waited on the line for a long time and did not receive timely calls back when they hung up, according to the Washington Post.

This comes after two days of investigation by tech crews for T-Mobile, which has been at the center of the issue for the past several days.

"We've got them here now", Rawlings said of the engineers.

"We provide the same service all across the country", explained T-Mobile Chief Technology Officer Neville Ray.

"At the end of the day, I'm still going to be here hurt, because he's not going to be here", Alex said.
