Everton fans won't turn on Romelu Lukaku despite stalled talks - Koeman

Romelu Lukaku began the week questioning whether Everton could match his ambition and ended it by taking his Premier League goal tally to 21 with two added time strikes in a 4-0 rout of Hull City on Saturday.

Calvert-Lewin broke the deadlock after nine minutes at Goodison Park, his first for the club coming on his full debut and just two days after his 20th birthday.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman then made a tactical switch, bringing on Ramiro Funes Mori for goalscorer Calvert-Lewin.

BBC reports that Lukaku started the week by turning down the most lucrative contract offer in Everton's history before ending it at the top of the Premier League goalscoring charts. United face Middlesbrough on Sunday. "If we want to do something more special this season then we need to beat the teams above us".

Everton are still hoping to convince their star to agree an extended deal, but the 23-year-old Belgian striker appears determined to force a transfer to a bigger club.

But the pace dropped when Gareth Barry replaced the injured Morgan Schneiderlin and Everton were nearly caught napping when Ashley Williams' hesitation in dealing with a long ball saw Sam Clucas' lob land on the top of the net just before half-time.

Sam Clucas should have equalised late in the first half when Ashley Williams' header back to Joel Robles fell short of the goalkeeper, but the Hull midfielder's weak effort drifted over.

"The decision of the referee about the red card was too harsh I believe".

Valencia came off the bench in the 77th minute and 60 seconds later he killed off Hull with a fine finish from Lukaku's pass.

On Thursday, Koeman was adamant that the ball was in Everton's court regarding Lukaku's future, and insisted that the striker needed to respect his contract, which expires in 2019.
