Trump touts 'big announcement' from Ford

Ford revealed at the North American International Auto Show in January that it planned to resurrect the fan favorites, which have been retired from the USA market for many years. This is the same plant for which Ford spent a federally guaranteed $550 million just a few years ago to convert to a factory that still assembles small cars - at least for a while yet.

Two weeks ago, the president visited MI and touted "a new industrial revolution" when he met with vehicle company execs and workers.

An [?] $850 million Michigan Assembly Plant upgrade supports return of Ford Ranger and Bronco.

"So far we have announced more than Dollars 4.7 billion of investment", she said, but the data center was not included in the contract as it does not included any new jobs.

The $1.2bn total is in addition to $700m to expand Ford's plant at Flat Rock in MI, which it announced in January.

Ford is expected to announce additional jobs and investment at its plants in MI on Tuesday.

The folks over at UAW-Ford gave the company the thumbs up for these investments, as did federal, state, county and local governments.

That investment comes as more US consumers are buying large vehicles; trucks and SUVs made up about 60 percent of new vehicle sales in 2016.

The investments were part of contract negotiations with the United Auto Workers union in 2015, Joe Hinrichs, Ford's president of the Americas, said in an interview.

DETROIT (AP) — Ford Motor Co.is investing $1.2 billion in three MI facilities, including an engine plant where it plans to add 130 jobs.

The Flat Rock data center will support a similar facility going into Ford's headquarters complex which, itself, is in the midst of a multi-billion-dollar renovation announced previous year. "JOBS! JOBS!", Trump tweeted hours ahead of the announcement.

"I'm asking all of the companies here today to join us in this new industrial revolution", he said.

Production of two small cars, the Focus and the C-Max, is moving from that plant to Mexico. "We feel very confident about our plan and our products and about investing in MI and the U.S".

"We have not paid off all the DOE loans; we're paying them on the schedule that was originally agreed to with the government", Hinrichs said.

While Trump has been quick to take credit on Twitter for bringing back American manufacturing jobs, this may not be one he can champion as his own work.
