Neuville wins Tour of Corsica rally as Ogier finishes second

M-Sport Ford driver Ogier became the first man to beat Meeke's Citroen to a stage win in SS3, the first of two tests in the afternoon, but only by 0.8 seconds.

"It's an incredible feeling to take the win here in Corsica this weekend", Neuville said.

Neuville's victory makes him the fourth different victor from four rounds, with Hyundai the fourth different constructor to take a win. "I struggled a bit in the opening day and I wasn't sure we could win this event, but we came back and turned it around".

Neuville turned things around on Saturday by winning the first stage, with Ogier coming second while Meeke put his Citroen in third.Things turned around in the following stage when Meeke retired with smoke coming out of his auto, he had to coast all the way to finish line.

Ogier recovered from an electrical problem on Sunday morning to move from third to second, demoting the second Hyundai of Dani Sordo.

The Citroen driver from Dungannon won three out of the four stages in the Tour de Course.

Overall, it was a frustrating race for Ogier, who left Volkswagen to drive the Ford Fiesta for M-Sport this season.

"I didn't push too much", Neuville said.

Ogier left Volkswagen to drive the Ford Fiesta for M-Sport this season and - even though he won the season-opening Monte Carlo Rally - he is still getting accustomed to the vehicle. "But I'm happy with my pace and feel comfortable", said the Ulsterman who was fastest in his Abu Dhabi team Citroen C3 on three of the four long stages which made up day one.

"He destroyed everyone on that stage past year and to be faster than him was satisfying", said Meeke who was being strongly backed up by Circuit of Ireland victor Craig Breen in the second of the Citroens.

Ogier still leads the championship with 88 points, with Latvala on 75 and Neuville climbing up to third place with 54. Countryman Sebastien Loeb holds the record with nine, all won consecutively.
