U.S. labour department accuses Google of 'extreme' gender pay discrimination

The US Department of Labour (DoL) claims it has evidence of "systemic compensation disparities" against female employees at Google. She said that the USA government found systemic compensation disparities against the search giant's women workers pretty much across the entire workforce.

Public records suggest that just under one-third of Google's approximately 70,000 employees are women. The allegations com even as there has been a public moment against workplace harassment and inequality at giant corporations.

A Google spokesperson told The Atlantic, "We vehemently disagree with Ms Wipper's claim". It claimed that this was the first time it had heard of these allegations, and that the DoL hasn't provided the company with information about its methodology or data to support them.

Except perhaps females: MarieClaire.com is particularly disappointed to learn that the Department of Labor has found discrimination against women at every level of the company. But a DoL official told The Guardian Friday that Google's discrimination was "extreme", even for the industry. However, Google refused to hand over the data leading to the lawsuit.

Undeterred, the Government agency asked the court on Friday to compel Google to turn over the required information to the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs.

They say that Google should provide this information because it is a federal contractor. The company also published a guide to doing the same at other companies.

Last month, Berlin denied the DoL's motion for summary judgment, which would have immediately concluded the case in its favor. Representatives of the Labor Department in San Francisco didn't immediately respond to requests for comment on Sunday. He said the department's request for the data was "unreasonably burdensome, given its extremely limited relevance".

Moreover, the department argues that it is Google's own internal affirmative action plan and avowed commitment to diversity that has led to this situation. "All employers can take steps to eliminate the gender and race pay gaps, today". "Google created much of the burden about which it now complains", the DoL noted.

While Google and its peers have been disclosing embarrassing sexual and racial imbalances in their workforces for the past few years, the technology industry so far has kept its compensation practices a closely guarded secret.

Google's labor lawyer attorney Lisa Barnett Sween from Jackson Lewis stated that Google had complied with initial requests. Microsoft was sued in 2016 by a former employee alleging systemic discrimination in pay between men and women and preferential treatment given to men in promotions and job reviews.
