Jaguar F-Pace SUV wins World Car of the Year 2017 title

Jaguar F-Pace SUV wins World Car of the Year 2017 title

Jaguar Land Rover's F-Pace has flawed two finalists, both from the VW Group: the Audi Q5 and Volkswagen Tiguan to emerge the 2017 World Car of the year. This first SUV from Jaguar has taken over the much-coveted crown.

The F-Pace saw off some stiff competition, just pipping Drive's reigning vehicle of the Year, the Volkswagen Tiguan, and the second-generation Audi Q5 to the post.

The British-built SUV also scooped World Car Design of the Year at the annual World Car of the Year awards, held in NY.

The Mercedes E-Class took the 2017 World Luxury Car title while the BMW i3 (94Ah) was declared the inaugural victor of the World Urban Car award.

Nabbing the coveted award wasn't the Jaguar F-Pace's only achievement, as it was also crowned the 2017 World Car Design of the Year victor, where it had to battle with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet and the Toyota C-HR.

Mercedes Benz E-Class was victor of the World Luxury Car award. "Winning these two awards endorses the talent and great work of our teams that have delivered the world's most practical sports auto and Jaguar's fastest selling vehicle".

It appears Pomeranz has put his spring training troubles behind him as he allowed only four hits and walked one while fanning six. When Wright is at the top of his game, hitting his knuckleball is more hard than trying to slice a mosquito in half with a sword.

The double win marks the first overall success for Jaguar at these awards.

Jaguar's F-Pace mid-size SUV has raced to the head of the pack. The victor in all the categories were decided at the 2017 New York Motor Show.

In 2016, 122,460 F-Paces were sold.

The Toyota Prius Prime bagged the World Green Car award, ahead of the Chevrolet Bolt and the Tesla Model X. The BMW i3 (94Ah) took home the World Urban Car award beating the Citroën C3 and the Suzuki Ignis. Since the World Car of the Year has started in 2003, it is only now that the winning vehicle came from Britain. So when the British carmaker ventured into building SUVs, apart from the initial grumbling about the heritage, much was expected from their first ever SUV, the F-Pace.

BMW i3 was victor of the World Urban Car award.

Mike Rutherford, a juror, director and vice-chairman of the World Car Awards/World Car of the Year said: "Jaguar has done the unthinkable by first securing the World Car Design of the Year award, then lifting the big one - the overall World Car of the Year trophy".
