What began as long delays at Pennsylvania Station in NY turned into a nightmare on Friday after a false report of shots fired caused a stampede.

The sound of the Taser caused mass panic and people started running out of Penn Station leaving luggage and shoes behind. They used the Taser on one of the men during the incident.

Right before rush hour, a New Jersey Transit Northeast Corridor train headed into NY became disabled in a Hudson River Tunnel due to loss of power.

Penn Station was already crowded on account of massive delays caused by a stalled NJ Transit train.

NYPD Counterterrorism tweeted that multiple reports of "shots fired" near Macy's were unfounded.

Delays were at their worst in peak periods, as 123 LIRR trains were canceled in the morning and evening rush hours in the week ended April 7. Trains to/from New York Penn Station will be single tracking through the north tube.

An NJ Transit spokeswoman said Amtrak was in charge of getting the train moving again and ensuring passengers' safety. Clothing, food, books, and even golf clubs, phones and laptops, littered the Amtrak area of the station in the minutes after crowds fled.
