Elon Musk Says Tesla Will Reveal A Semi Truck In September

Both the Tesla Semi and pick-up truck were announced last summer in Musk's "Master Plan Part Deux", but little is known about either at present.

Tesla Inc. Chief Executive Elon Musk tweeted Thursday that the Silicon Valley company hopes to unveil a freight truck in September, just months ahead of the launch of the Model 3, the small sedan it hopes to sell to the masses.

The CEO congratulated the Tesla Semi team for doing "an awesome job".

A Tesla representative would not offer details on the plans Musk tweeted, and said the tweets would be the company's only statement. Last July, Musk said heavy-duty trucks were among the type of electric vehicles needed in the marketplace and that Tesla is expected to unveil their line of trucks later on this year.

U.S. automaker Tesla rose to hold the title of the country's most highest-valued auto manufacturer after its share price increased this week.

The sad news was personally confirmed by Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy at the " Star Wars Celebration " on Friday, April 14. Earlier in the day at a panel at the Star Wars Celebration fan event, Hamill admits that he "lies all the time".

Adding a semi truck to the production schedule for Tesla is an ambitious project. Analysts have questioned whether Tesla will be able to meet those sales goals, as the company hasn't yet made more than 100,000 vehicles in a year.

Indeed, Tesla has only had two profitable quarters in its entire history as publicly-traded company, mostly due to its massive spending on research and development. Those three didn't respond to requests for comment. Its lower-cost Model 3 electric vehicle is due out by the end of this yea. And by doing so, the company went past General Motors in terms of market valuation for a small time to end up becoming the most valuable United States automobile company.

While it remains speculation at this point, considering recent testing here in Australia of autonomous large-scale cargo trucks, it seems likely that Tesla's first foray into the realm of electric trucks could be packaged with some variation of the Autopilot system.

The automaker recently raised $1.2 billion and had previously raised $1.5 billion in May past year to fund its upcoming Model 3.
