Hillary Clinton says misogyny "played a role" in her incredible election defeat

Hillary Clinton has called for an independent investigation into the involvement of Russian Federation into the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election.

Hillary Clinton has chided President Donald Trump for ordering massive airstrikes on Syria and said the USA can not in one breath speak of protecting Syrian babies and in the next close America's doors to them. Clinton, who spoke at the Women in the World conference in NY on Thursday, called for the U.S. Congress to launch an investigation into the matter.

Clinton, who served as secretary of state under former President Barack Obama, weighed in less than a day after Trump authorised airstrikes against a Syrian regime target in retaliation for a chemical attack on civilians.

Former Secretary of State John Kerry insisted he was "gratified" that Trump had attacked Syria, adding that he believes more military action would be a way for the USA to produce a peace deal in Syria after years of civil war.

The United States could not in one breath speak of protecting Syrian babies and in the next, close the U.S. doors to the refugees from Syria, she said. "We should have been more willing to confront Assad", said Clinton. Clinton is expected to address more than 2,400 people.

On Trump's orders, USA warships in the Mediterranean Sea launched between 50-60 Tomahawk cruise missiles at the Shayrat air base in Homs governorate, where the warplanes that carried out the chemical attacks are based. "What [Vladimir] Putin wanted to do was sow distrust and confusion as well as influence our election", she said and added that its time United States political leaders act like "patriotic Americans". Kristof was referring to the current commander-in-chief, President Donald Trump. "The role the United States plays in the world matters", Clinton said.

"I think in this election there was a very real struggle between what is viewed as change that is welcomed and exciting to so many Americans and change which is worrisome and threatening to so many others", Clinton said.
