Clashes follow Anti-India protests in Srinagar

Clashes broke out between students and security forces, in a number of educational institutes, in the Kashmir Valley, on Monday. Police fired tear gas shells and chased the students away after being showered with stones.

The latest unrest was triggered by a police raid on a college in Pulwama district over the weekend.

"I folded my hands in front of them". They later moved out of the college as well. The situation is tense but under control, SP Sopore Harmit Singh said.

"School and college campuses are the only places which used to be safe. In the resultant chaos, some students received minor injuries and majority were discharged after first aid", the statement said. "These protests are also against the army for beating innocent students on the roads".

The female students of Government Women's College Srinagar also tried to take out protest march. "One was referred to Srinagar hospital where his condition is stable".

The call for holding protests against Pulwama incidents had been issued by a students' union. The roads wore a deserted in the capital after the clashes started. "In the resultant chaos some students received minor injuries and a lot of them were discharged after first aid", the statement said.

Reports said over three dozen students and two dozen security men were injured in Monday's clashes in the Valley. In Shopian, seven students were injured, according to eyewitnesses. "Why could all colleges/universities not have been closed for a few days after the Pulwama clashes?"
