Bozak's OT goal gives Maple Leafs series lead over Capitals

The Leafs took advantage of an incomplete effort from the Capitals, rallying from a two-goal deficit to win Game 3 on Monday on Tyler Bozak's overtime power play goal, but will have to put forth their best effort and not depend on Washington making the same mistake if they want to take a commanding lead in the best-of-seven series. On top of all of that, look for Caps' goaltender, Braden Holtby, to dial his level of play up another level.

Tom Wilson celebrates one of his two first period goals.

"I think we feel comfortable going out there against anybody", Matthews said.

Babcock: I just think in each series you've got to elevate your play and you've got to get better on each off day if you're going to have success. However, the Capitals got the early jump as they scored twice in the first five minutes with both goals coming from their vaunted top line of Ovechkin, Backstrom and former UND star T.J. Oshie. You go through adversity on your way there. "I thought they won all the battles and all the races".

Hyman drew the power play late in regulation on the goal that Bozak scored in overtime to win it. Mitch Marner and William Nylander each had two assists. I thought we looked slow and I thought they looked fast.

The unit dominated the puck all night long.

"Like I said, it's very rare that you can waltz your way through these playoffs, absolutely. In some ways, it was nice that we were able to score goals and get ourselves back into the game, but we didn't play near as good as we had to or needed to".

Filip Forsberg erased Chicago's two-goal third period lead by himself.

"It is what it is, but come this time of year you have no choice but to play your best hockey", said defenceman Morgan Rielly. "And they're playing a good hockey team, but I think you gain respect for yourself and the process and you start believing that maybe you can do this". This has been an incredibly fun series, with all three games so far going to overtime.

All three games so far have been decided in overtime.

Theresa May calls for snap General Election to ensure Brexit 'unity'
Wyn Grant, politics professor at the University of Warwick, said: "Clearly if Labour suffer a big defeat, Corbyn is going to go". But it is hard to envisage a scenario in which the government fails to increase its 17-seat majority in the House of Commons.

Book: Clinton Says 2016 Election 'Was My Last Race'
Steve Schale , among the most reliable Democratic strategists in the state, informed Clinton's campaign they were short on votes. The ad reportedly focused on Clinton's positions on issues that Sanders had campaigned on, such as healthcare and minimum wage.

Trump says he will 'stand up for our dairy farmers'
Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross has blamed the Senate for delaying the confirmation of Trump's USA trade representative. New York's senators are pushing to change a Canadian trade policy they say is hurting dairy farmers.

"It's a situation where you have to fight through it", Ovechkin said. "It's just good to be comfortable in these situations".

The 19-year-old came up point-less in the first two games in Washington - where Caps coach Barry Trotz had last change and control of the matchups - but emerged in the second half of Saturday's double OT win. "We knew after that, we can do our business".

That may be true, but perhaps only because the Capitals are allowing them to.

Matthews cut the lead to one with his second playoff goal at 12:00 of the third on a rebound after Matt Hunwick's shot from the point. Mike Hoffman added two goals for Ottawa, with Derick Brassard scoring the other. I think we scored the third goal to go up by two again after that. No one was anywhere near Ovechkin when he took the puck at the left point, moved up and drilled one of his patented slapshots past goaltender Frederik Andersen at 4:34.

Hyman scored for Toronto at 5:16 of the first period, his first of the playoffs as a shot by defenseman Jake Gardiner bounced in off his foot. He scored on his next shift to give the Caps a 4-1 advantage after bowling over Rielly near the Washington blue line. That set up a rush down the right wing by Eller, who circled behind the goal, and Wilson tipped it in t 13:41. Big money will have to be spent on restricted free agents such as Evgeny Kuznetsov, Andre Burakovsky, Brett Connolly and Nate Schmidt.

If the Capitals start laying a few more hits, they may get to the younger Leafs roster. Backstrom was serving a holding-the-stick minor.

One X-factor for the rest of the series will be defenseman Karl Alzner, who missed Game 3 and is not expected to play in Game 4, due to an upper body injury. This after he scored seven goals in 82 games during the regular season.

Monday's game featured 73 hits, with Toronto leading the way with 42. Game 4 is a now a win or stay home game for Calgary at the Scotiabank Saddledome, slated for Wednesday night at 10:00 pm EST in Southern Alberta.

Polak, 30, is set to have surgery to fix the now undisclosed injury and could miss an even longer period of time than previously thought.
