Prince William speaks with Lady Gaga on mental health

They teamed up after meeting as part of Time To Talk Day for the mental health charity Heads Together after Lady Gaga wrote a moving account of her struggles with PTSD on the Born This Way Foundation website. There's a lot of shame attached with mental illness - you feel like something's wrong with you. "In my life, I go, 'Oh, my goodness, look at all of these attractive, wonderful things that I have".

On Tuesday, the Royal Family's Facebook page broadcast a video of Prince William and Lady Gaga to encourage people to talk openly about mental health.

Speaking from Kensington Palace to Lady Gaga in her Hollywood home, William stressed the importance of smashing the stigma around talking about mental health.

"It's okay to have this conversation".

The 31-year-old singer has opened up to Prince William about her personal battles with depression in a FaceTime chat, and the star has revealed she felt nervous when she started discussing her issues publicly because of the stigma surrounding the condition.

What's more, the project aims to help people give friends and family who suffer from mental health problems the support they need, as well as stamping out the fear that sometimes prevents people from seeking help. The Duke was hugely impressed with the openness displayed in the letter and asked Lady Gaga to get involved with the Heads Together campaign.

In an interview with Bryony Gordon for her podcast Mad World, he said her death had "a quite serious effect" on his mental health, leading to grief and anxiety he didn't address until his late 20s.

"I still have shock within me - people say it can't last that long but it does", he told the BBC One documentary, Mind Over Marathon, airing on Thursday.

She said that speaking about her experience and sharing it with others was the "best thing" to come out of her mental illness.

Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45 in Britain, and Prince William said seeing the impact of suicide through his work as a an air ambulance helicopter pilot had been a "tipping point" in his decision to campaign on mental health issues.
