American Lung Association gives state lower marks for particulate pollution

(American Lung Association) The number of days with high particle pollution in the Baltimore-Washington region continued to drop, according to American Lung Association figures released in its 2017 State of the Air report.

Billings said: "They've done more than any other state to counteract air pollution".

In Nebraska, Grand Island is ranked as one of the cleanest USA cities with short term particle pollution.

The annual ranking of high particle pollution represents the concentration of particles in a cubic meter of air. Stewart said this is the first time Sussex County got a passing grade for ozone in the history of the report. The report also broke down measurements of high ozone days by county.

Days with excessive ozone, which can trigger asthma attacks and worsen other lung problems, were down over a year ago. Both ozone pollution and particle pollution may increase the risk of lower birth weight in infants.

"There is a definite correlation between pollution and respiratory illnesses, as the air quality worsens so is the incidence of respiratory illnesses like asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis, including allergic skin conditions as well", said Dr. Eduardo Villarama, regional medical director for Golden Valley Health Centers, in an email to the Merced Sun-Star.

The southeast region of the country has some of the healthiest air in the country, according to a new report.

Residents of most US cities can breathe easier than people in some other parts of the world.

But, CEO Mark Zuckerberg is trying hard to fill that gap and he doesn't care if copying Snapchat is involved in the process. This will allow developers to create more sophisticated AR effects such as animated frames, masks, and more.

NCAA tournament returns to North Carolina following repeal of controversial 'bathroom bill'
The NCAA decision comes 14 days after the Republican-controlled state legislature approved House Bill 142 and Democratic Gov. The 2015 match-up between Clemson and North Carolina attracted a crowd of 75,514, which is a Bank of America record.

Many cities, such as Charleston, reached their lowest levels of ozone and year-round particle pollution ever.

The 10 worst cities for short-term particle air pollution were Bakersfield, Calif., Visalia-Porterville-Hanford, Calif., Fresno-Madera, Calif., Modesto-Merced, Calif., Fairbanks, Ala., San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland, Calif., Salt Lake City-Provo-Orem, Utah, Logan, Utah-Idaho, Los Angeles-Long Beach, Calif. and Reno-Carson City-Fernley, Nev.

Compared to the 2016 report, Fairfield County, the most polluted county in the New York City metro area, had a weighted average of 24.0 days with unhealthful levels of ozone in 2013-2015, fewer than the 24.3 days in 2012-2014.

He called it "simply unacceptable" that people in some cities still live with unhealthy air pollution, and called on leaders to do more to reduce it.

One day of unhealthy air each year might not sound bad, Stewart said, but it can be enough to cause problems for people in sensitive groups.

The Environmental Protection Agency reports that the most common causes of life-threatening ozone pollution include vehicle exhaust, chemical processing, and industrial production.

The association has analyzed data from official air quality monitors for the past 18 years. This is in keeping with the national trend of increased short-term spikes in particle pollution in many locations in the Western United States.

Much of the air quality improvement came from cleaning up major pollution sources, such as coal-fired power plants, and retiring old, dirty diesel engines, the Lung Association said.
