Emirates cuts flights on five US routes as restrictions hit demand

"This is a commercial decision in response to weakened travel demand to the U.S.", Emirates said in a statement provided to NBC News.

In the 2016 rankings of best airlines in the world, none of the U.S.'s top four airlines made it anywhere close to the top 20. Abu Dhabi, UAE-based Etihad told Business Insider on Wednesday that it has no plans to reduce service to the US. "Fellow peers are doing the same thing because we need to be able to work".

However between them the three ME airlines account for 235 sales out of a total of 306 for the design, which uses a new wing, with folding wing tips.

American declined to comment. Emirates is the largest buyer of the forthcoming Boeing 777-X series of higher tech airliners, a design which like the current 777 models, has been largely rejected by American carriers.

Emirates Airline is cutting back on flights to the United States because policies introduced by President Donald Trump's administration have hurt bookings. Flights to Boston, Seattle and Los Angeles will be reduced from twice to once daily, and in Florida, daily service to Orlando and Ft.

- Fort Lauderdale-Dubai: Starting May 1, two flights will be trimmed from the existing daily service.

Emirates remains committed to the US market despite plans to slash 20 percent of its flights in the wake of tougher security and visa measures put in place under the Trump administration, the airline's president said Thursday.

During the presidential campaign, Mr Trump promised to label China a currency manipulator on his first day in office. Mr Trump told the newspaper he had changed his mind because China has not been manipulating its currency for months.

Emirates said Wednesday it was cutting 25 of the 126 weekly flights it operates into the US from Dubai starting next month. "Emirates has therefore responded as any profit-oriented enterprise would, and we will redeploy capacity to serve demand on other routes on our global network", the spokesperson added.

Dubai was one of 10 cities in Muslim-majority countries affected by a ban on laptops and other personal electronics in carry-on luggage aboard US -bound flights.

Emirates president Tim Clark, who called the ban disruptive, said last month that demand to the USA had fallen by about a third since Trump's orders.

In addition to clinching the grand prize, the airline was the biggest victor with 4 other awards including Best Major Airline - Middle East & Africa, Best Economy Class, Best First Class and World's Best Airlines Top 10.

Emirates blamed the fall on USA government moves against some Middle East destinations but a lobby group for the big three U.S. carriers - Delta, American and United - poured scorn on the claim.

That economic impact will likely take a hit now that flight reductions on tap and there's uncertainty surrounding how long they'll last.
