Elon Musk's grand plan for your brain includes adding new senses

After weeks of anticipation, details on Elon Musk's brain-computer interface company Neuralink have finally been revealed.

"There are a bunch of concepts in your head that then your brain has to try to compress into this incredibly low data rate called speech or typing", Mr. Musk told Mr. Musk and his think-tank do not have everything figured out just yet, but the general idea is to advance the neural implant tech while they wait until laws and regulations let them actually implant something into a healthy person's brain. Under his guidance, Neuralink will create computer interfaces that can link with the human brain. Reading someone's thoughts instantaneously could turn humanity into one giant brain, which in turn could immeasurably speed up progress of the human race, and so forth.

Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, on Thursday laid out his plan for his new company Neuralink Corp.

Musk said the main goal of this technology, for now at least, is to build solutions for treating brain injuries caused by cancer lesion, strokes and other diseases. "It can help with people who, as they get older, have memory problems and can't remember the names of their kids, through memory enhancement, which could allow them to function well to a much later time in life".

Musk didn't mention any specific time frame for realizing these goals, but he said an experimental version of the technology could be available in around a decade's time.

$13 a pack? NYC mayor wants highest cigarette prices in US
Stores selling cigarettes and e-cigarettes would also be banned from delivering cigarettes, tobacco products and e-cigarettes. If the proposed bills are passed, then NY would become the most expensive USA city for buying cigarettes.

Trade, security matters key issues for Trump, Italian leader
The G7 follows the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders' summit in Brussels, which Trump and Trudeau are expected to attend. Italy is to host the G7 leaders' summit next month, which will be part of Trump's entry into the world of multilateral summitry.

OPEC figures show oil output cuts exceed pledge in March
Prices are still up from about $42 a barrel a year ago, and OPEC was upbeat on the outlook for the market. Brent crude futures were down 17 cents at $56.06 a barrel by 10:43 a.m.

"You wouldn't need to verbalise unless you want to add a little flair to the conversation or something, but the conversation would be conceptual interaction on a level that's hard to conceive of right now", he said.

Neuralink, whose website says it is hiring engineers, scientists and others in San Francisco, will create tiny electrodes that can be implanted into the brain to essentially speed up communication - perhaps giving humans a fighting chance in keeping up with the machines.

Neuralink is registered in California as a "medical research" company and Musk says he plans to fund the company mostly by himself.

"I think we are about eight to 10 years away from this being usable by people with no disability".

Musk likened the situation to the cooperation of the limbic system and the cortex in the human brain. The EV firm has met eight of ten market value milestones, an increase from seven previous year, according to the filing.
