Falcons to open new Stadium against Packers

ESPN is reporting the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots will open the 2017 National Football League season Thursday, September 7th at Gillette Stadium. The Seahawks play at Dallas on Christmas Eve and finish the regular season at home against the Cardinals, a game that could again decide the NFC West. The team has four prime-time games this year, including two Sunday Night and one Monday Night game, all of which are at home.

The Packers will host Cincinnati in Week 3 and the Bears in Week 4 before heading to Dallas for a Week 5 matchup with the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium. They're 7-18 all-time at the Packers, though temperature plays a big role in that - when it's 48 degrees or colder at kickoff, the Bucs are 1-10 at the Packers; when it's 49 or warmer, they're 6-8 all-time.

Seattle will open the season against the Packers, which will mark Eddie Lacy's return to Green Bay.

The Packers will need to be fresh late in the year because they play five of their last eight games on the road, including another potential NFC North-deciding game against the Detroit Lions in Week 17.

Other marquee games include a Sunday night trip to Pittsburgh on November 26 and a Saturday home game against the Vikings Dec. 23.

The traditional Sunday noon kickoff will be seen just eight times in the season, with the first occuring on Sunday, Oct. 15 in a game at Lambeau Field against the Vikings. It'll be the regular-season debut of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the new retractable-roofed home of the Falcons. There are a number of Green Bay Packers connections there; Kansas City general manager John Dorsey and Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie worked under Ted Thompson in the Green Bay Packers' front office, while the Philly head coach Doug Pederson was a former Green Bay Packer who coached previously for Chiefs. Here are the three toughest opponents the Packers will face next season. The following week they travel to Chicago for a noon game. After the break, the Seahawks face the Giants in NY in Week 7. They let a 17-13 lead slip away in 2015 and fell 27-17 on Sunday Night Football, and uh. you know what happened in 2016.

On Monday night, New Orleans is at Minnesota, followed by the Chargers, in their first game representing Los Angeles since 1960, at Denver.
